About Me

I have been interested in birth as long as I can remember, but I didn't get serious about it until 2010, when I did my doula training and (less than 24 hours later) attended my first birth as an (unofficial) doula. I have attended over 50 births since then, both in homes and hospitals, each of them unique and each of them beautiful. I have learned to trust in women: their instincts, their bodies, and their abilities to do more than they thought they were capable of. I think the fact that women are equipped to grow and sustain new life is an absolutely amazing gift—like, it should be registered as a superpower.

In 2011 I took a break from working as a doula for the birth of my son, Patrick. I believe so strongly in the importance of having a doula that I had both a doula and a doula-in-training attend Patrick's birth. Their help, along with that of my excellent midwife and my amazingly supportive husband, got me through a very difficult labor. I was part of a community of women who nurtured and upheld me as I brought my son into the world. My goal is that all of my clients would have the same quality of care that I did.  Because of my PhD work, I am currently accepting a very limited number of clients.

"There is no way I would have made it out of pregnancy sane without Kriss. Her loving helpful presence meant more to me and my family than I could ever say! She was available to answer every question with wisdom, was there cheering me on during labor and there crying for joy when both my children were born. I would recommend Kriss for every birth from the first to the last."  --Jessica
